Young gun Henderson delighted to sign up

- Callum Carson

Livingston hitkid Craig Henderson admits signing his first professional contract is a special moment after the 16-year-old penned a full-time deal with the Lions.

The winger, from Kelty, has been an unused substitute twice this term and he says he’s hoping to make his mark on the first team sooner rather than later.

He said:“It’s all I’ve been wanting and training towards for the last few years so I’m delighted to be given the chance at Livingston.

“It’s a club and a manager that gives youth a chance and I’ve been part of the matchday squad already which was a brilliant experience.

“I just want to work hard in training and hopefully I can impress and be given a chance in the first team.”

Head coach David Hopkin hailed the youngster as a“special talent”and says the club worked quickly to get him signed up after the left-sided player impressed in training.

He commented:“He’s small but he’s very good with the ball and a direct player who is a special talent.

“He’s been in training for the last week and really impressed us all both on the pitch or in the gym.

“He’s definitely got a bit about him that I really like and we’re bringing him in with the view of hopefully getting him first-team experience.

“I was given glowing reports about his progress with the under-17s and under-20s so we invited him in for some full-time training and we quickly decided to offer him a full-time deal.”

He added:“He will continue his development with the under-17s and under-20s but if he continues to impress, I have no doubt that Craig could make his first-team debut this season.”
