Clarion shine in series

-

West Lothian Clarion sent a terrific 33 riders to the third round of the Scottish Cyclo-Cross series in Dunfermline.

The races were run over a technicallychallenging course, which was well-suited to those with mountain biking experience. With the large number of competitors, the course became muddier and muddier as the day went on which simply added to the challenge - and the fun.

Rhuairdh Fulton had the club’s best result of the day, continuing his run of second places, having achieved the same in both previous races.

Other youth riders also competed well in strong fields, with top-10 spots finishes for Georgina Bark (under-8 girls), Finlay Turner and Ross Chisholm (under-12 boys) and Katie Galloway (under-14 girls).

Sam Chisholm rode an excellent race in the under-14 boys’race to finish fourth with Abbie Mason achieving the same result in the under-16 girls’race.

Alex Ball (fifth) and George Freeman (seventh) both did well in the under-16 boys’event.

The club was well represented in the adult races, too, with George Stewart producing a noteworthy performance for 11th in the men’s Veteran 40s race.

He was delighted with this result and attributed his success to hearing his son’s encouragement, and to avoiding the worst of the mud by hugging the barrier tape and carrying his bike for stages to avoid damage to the gears.
