Late show stuns United

Broxburn Ath .......... 3

Bo’ness United ........ 2

Broxburn Athletic stunned their visitors as they netted three times in the final eight minutes to seal a come from behind victory over Bo’ness United at Albyn Park.

The hosts were second best for large spells of the game and could have no complaints about being two goals down at the interval.

Marc Kelly gave United an early advantage with a neat finish from a tight angle after just two minutes before former Bathgate Thistle defender Hassan Nyang doubled their lead with a fierce header on the half hour mark.

Athletic were handed a lifeline when Will Snowdon was shown a second yellow card for Bo’ness with 60 minutes played and Broxburn finally got themselves into the match.

However, despite now having the better of the play, a first home league defeat of the campaign was on the cards as the game entered the final eight minutes.

Cue an incredible fightback from the hosts which started when Darren Gribben fired a fierce strike that went in off the right-hand post.

Moments later, the scores were tied when Zander Miller’s effort deflected high over Andy Murphy in the away goal and into the net.

The winner came deep in injury time and in a controversial manner as Gribben’s shot on goal appeared to strike Devon Jacobs on the hand.

Despite protests from the United players, which saw them reduced to nine men following the dismissal of Stuart Hunter, Gribben duly won the match with a calm finish.

It’s home action this weekend once again for Broxburn as they tackle Carnoustie Panmure.
