Local dancers to perform with Russian ballet stars
Ballerinas will take to stage in production of Sleeping Beauty
A group of West Lothian dancers are set to take to the stage with the Russian State Ballet in a one-off production of ‘Sleeping Beauty’.
Thirty- one dancers from West Lothian Danceworld will perform alongside the prestigious ballet company at the Howden Park Centre tomorrow (Friday, November 17).
And Hazel Saunders, who formed Danceworld, believes the performance will be a great opportunity for her dancers.
She said: “They will be taking part in the Corps de Ballet of Sleeping Beauty alongside the Russian professional dancers.
“It is such a great opportunity and I am sure it is one for them to cherish and learn lots from.
“Two of my teachers, Lucy Bryce from Bathgate and Kayleigh Wishart, have worked tirelessly with all of our pupils teaching them 10 choreographies set by the Russian Ballet.”
The girls will rehearse for two days before the performance with the Russian State Ballet and Hazel welcomed the “unique experience” for her young charges.
She added: “They will rehearse with them on Thursday and Friday and it will be a unique experience for our pupils to see the workings of a professional ballet company and the dedication of the soloist and full company.
“They get to perform alongside them and I’m sure that they will learn lots from this wonderful experience.
“They have beautiful tutus to wear and are so excited to show them how hard they have worked.
“I am very proud of my teachers and every pupil for the commitment they have shown as little ballerinas.
“Danceworld is proud to have successes in all genres of dance.”
West Lothian Danceworld have had many success stories over the years with one of their former pupils currently head girl at the famous Moulin Rouge in Paris and other student touring with West End musicals.
The dance group also performed at the finals of the Commonwealth games to a crowd of 13,000 people.
