£100K target is smashed

- Debbie Hall

a family of fundraisers have smashed their £100,000 target in memory of their beloved father and husband.

each year Willie Wilmot’s daughters and wife hold a Family Fun day dedicated to him at the Hilcroft in Whitburn to raise money for Macmillan Cancer support.

this year’s event raised £11,500, helping the women smash their £100,000 total.

Willie’s youngest daughter, pauline Macmillan, said her family are delighted to have raised a total of £106,000 in memory of her dad, who passed away aged 59 in 2007.

she said:“We really enjoy putting on these events, and we are so grateful to be so well supported.”

Family and friends of Whitburn man Willie Wilmot recently held their tenth annual Family Fun Day Fundraising event to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support in his memory.

The annual event was another fantastic success with the family smashing their £100,000 target.

Held at The Hilcroft Hotel, the event was busy from start to finish with people from near and far in attendance.

People who came along were impressed with the quality and quantity of the raffle prizes available with items such as hotel overnights, luxury London get-away package, iPad, TV, bike, hampers, shopping vouchers and much more and over 100 prize winners were delighted with their haul.

Guests also enjoyed free kids entertainment, as well as an opportunity to shop at one of the 10 stalls, play Deal or No Deal or bottle hoopla for another chance of winning, or take part in the silent auction where happy bidders went home with a holiday to La Manga, a health and beauty package, a bottle of whisky, and a luxury spa package.

The day itself raised over £11,500. That means the team of hardworking volunteers have now raised over £106,000 since they started fundraising, in November 2007 when Willie died of cancer at just 59. And they have no intention of slowing down.

Pauline Macmillan, Willie’s youngest daughter and local fundraising manager for Macmillan, said: “We really enjoy putting on these events, and we are so grateful to be so well supported by our friends, family, local businesses and our local community, we owe a special thanks to staff at The Hilcroft Hotel who host us spectacularly.

“If you would like to organise an event for Macmillan please visit our website, because life with cancer is still life, and we will help you live it.”

The next event will be in March and will announced on the team’s facebook page very soon, a very special guest has been booked to host the event and its sure to be a sell out event, so make sure you keep your eyes open for more details at www. facebook. com/rememberingwilliewilmot and of course the Family Fun Day will be back again in November next year.
