Family book for nursery

- Debbie Hall

A local nursery has launched a familyfriendly cookbook to raise money for a good cause.

Riverside Cottage Nursery in Blackburn has launched a family-friendly vegetarian cookbook with all proceeds going to the nursery’s charity partner, SANDS Lothians.

Kids, staff, families and the nursery’s Facebook fans have been involved in recipe trials during the last few months and the £5 e-book, which features 20 easy recipes for soups, meals and snacks, can now be purchased on the SANDS Lothians online shop.

Nursery manager, Luke Addison, said: “Everyone is excited to have been involved in this project and we are so grateful to everyone who has cooked and tasted our recipes which are designed to take the stress out of family meals.

“We hope people will enjoy dishes such as ‘Easy Peasy Macaroni Cheesey’ and ‘School of Broc Risotto’, as well as our tips on how to enjoy cooking and eating with kids.”

The nursery hopes to significantly boost the £350 it raised for SANDS by doing Welly Walks in Spring through sales of the cookery book. The team has also opened up a Christmas shop in the nursery, selling handcrafted natural decorations, cards and bath salts, as well as home baking.

Riverside launched the charity partnership in support of a staff member who has faced challenging circumstances in her personal life.

Luke added: “The whole team is proud to support SANDS, a charity close to our hearts - and our children are feeling very good about raising money to help people in need.”

Nicola Welsh from SANDS Lothians said: “A huge thank you to everyone at Riverside for choosing to support us and raising an amazing £350 so far!

“Community support like this makes the world of difference to us as a small, local charity. The money raised will help us to continue providing families with free specialist support, including befriending and counselling and £350 will provide free counselling sessions which can be essential for families trying to make sense of this difficult time following the loss of their precious little one.”
