Facilities welcome boost

- Marjorie Kerr

Sport and fitness facilities in Broxburn have been boosted after the town’s Xcite venues shared over £180,000 worth of investment from West Lothian Leisure.

Xcite Broxburn Sports Centre and Swimming Pool have both been re-vamped.

And the latest round of works at the sports centre have transformed the entrance, foyer and waiting areas into modern and welcoming spaces for users, giving the venue a new lease of life.

The changing rooms have also been refurbished and a new PA system installed throughout, as well as new flooring, external decoration and landscaping.

Essential repairs to the sports centre’s roof by West Lothian Council are also near completion.

This follows an extensive re-development of the swimming pool recently, which provided a new changing village with better pool access, new cubicles, a décor update and an upgraded softplay area for the Xcite venue.

Executive Councillor for culture and leisure, Dave King said:“The recent re-development of Xcite Broxburn Sports Centre and Swimming Pool has delivered first class leisure facilities for Broxburn. “Customers of both facilities will appreciate the wide range of improvements, which will benefit local residents for years to come.”

Dr Cindy Brook, chair of West Lothian Leisure Board, who run Xcite, added:“We are continually investing in our venues to improve the facilities on offer to help improve their activity, health and fitness.

“The recent project in Broxburn’s two Xcite venues at the Sports Centre and Swimming Pool marks a major investment in the town to update the facilities and to secure the provision of their local sports and swimming activities.”
