Shona launches of new comedy night

- Debbie Hall

A new comedy night in Livingston is hoping to have everyone laughing in the aisles.

Deer Park Golf and Country Club is hosting a series of comedy nights organised by local comic Shona Lawson.

The launch night takes place tomorrow (Friday, November 24), and will run on the last Friday of the month thereafter.

The events have been organised by Bathgate comic Shona Lawson, alongside the Deer Park management team and Shona said she hopes to be able to offer audiences talented comedians without having to travel to city centres.

Shona said: “There’s not really anything like this going on in West Lothian but there’s an audience for it.

“People end up getting into the habit of going into Glasgow or Edinburgh but you can save a fortune, stay in your home town, get a few friends together and have a good night out.”

The comedy nights are hoping to appeal to a wide audience, with comics of all ages, background and experience in order to offer as much variety as you would find in city centre nights.

The opening night boasts Bill Dewar, a Bathgateborn comedian who has 20 years’ experience gigging all over the UK and is a regular MC an headliner for many major comedy clubs in Scotland and the north of England.

There is also a selection of up and coming comedians learning their craft, who could be the next Kevin Bridges or Frankie Boyle.

Shona continued: “Where most comedians cut their teeth is in small rooms entertaining local audiences.

“It’s the bread and butter of the comedy experience and it’s a real shame there was nothing of the like here.”

The comedy nights are planned for November 24, December 29 and January 26 at 7.30pm.

Tickets are just £5 and if successful more dates will be added.
