100th Livi Parkrun passes milestone

Hundreds of runners mak special occasion

Livingston Parkrun celebrated the 100th running of its weekly Saturday morning event with a record 507 runners on the 5km course at Almondvale Park.

Since its inception in January last year, 3995 runners of all ages and abilities have tackled the course, with 193 different clubs being represente­d.

Lothian Running Club athletes lead the male and female winners’ list, with Lana Turnbull being top lady 25 times and Josh Dack the leading man on 17 occasions.

The course record of 15 minutes and 55 seconds is held by Kyle Greig of Forres Harriers and Lothian RC’s Sarah Inglis has the fastest female time at 17 minutes and six seconds.

The event has been well supported by the local athletic clubs, with Lothian RC providing 97 runners, West Lothian Triathlon Club 63, Livingston AAC 59 and Linlithgow AAC 31.

The first finishers at the 100th event were unattached runner Ross McKenzie and Lothian RC’s Chloe Cox, who has been leading woman 40 times at the Edinburgh parkrun and was making her debut at Livingston.

Lothian Running Club duo Malcolm Lang and Yvonne Crilley helped Scotland to team bronze medals in their respective age categories at the British & Irish Masters Cross Country Internatio­nal at Derry, Northern Ireland.

Running in the M40 category, Malcolm finished third Scot and 12th overall, covering the 8km course in 28m 36s. In the F55 6km race Yvonne was third Scot and ninth overall in 26m 21s.

Max McNeil helped Oklahoma City University to bronze medals at the NAIA Cross Country Championsh­ips at Vancouver, Washington.

Max was second of the seven points scorers for the Oklahoma team, finishing 26th overall of 326 finishers and covering the 8km course in 25m 14s.

Hannah Steel was LRC’s only representa­tive at the Livingston AC open cross country meeting at Dechmont Law Park.

Running in the under-15 girls 2.4km race, Hannah finished sixth in 9m 38s with the host club’s Isla Calvert taking the win.

Running for Queen Margaret University, Lothian Running Club’s Robbie Kennedy finished sixth overall and second under-23 in the 5km event at the Edinburgh University Braids Hills Open meeting.

Christina Wegelius finished 260th overall in 27m 17s.
