Draw in table-topping clash

- Fauldhouse ............ 1 Musselburgh .......... 1

Fauldhouse United were unable to inflict a first league defeat of the season on Musselburgh Athletic but they more than held their own in a clash that pitted the Premier League’s top two sides against each other.

And they served up a great advert for the game with plenty of attractive attacking on display while both sets of defences more than held their own.

Matthew Bennett had the first chance for the hosts but was denied by an impressive save from Alistair Adams in the Athletic goal while Jack Currie fired an effort across the face of goal on 16 minutes as the Hoose got off to a fast start.

United keeper JC Hutchison was called into action with a smart save at his near post after Mathu King worked his way into the box with Athletic’s best chance of the first half.

Fauldhouse, though, continued to dominate with Bennett again unable to beat Adams while the visiting defence blocked a number of shots in dangerous positions as they threw themselves at everything.

Athletic had the better of the early stages after the break with King’s header being hooked off the line but United deservedly took the lead just shy of the hour mark as Currie turned his man and calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

Athletic showed why they are yet to taste defeat and equalised shortly after as King pounced on a poor pass back to round the keeper and tap the ball into the net.

Both sides created chances to win the game and Fauldhouse may well feel the more disappointed that they were unable to do so, but they claimed a hard fought point and remain in the promotion places.
