Professional performance

-

Job done. That’s the simple way to start this week’s blog as that’s the best way to describe our victory over Junior outfit Glenafton Athletic in the Scottish Cup third round.

We showed professionalism on the pitch, the players showing the will to win the tie and the manager and coaching staff took the threat of the opposition seriously and made only minimal changes which didn’t have an impact on the quality of the team.

Cup fever didn’t exactly grip the home fans, perhaps something to do with the PR own goal earlier in the week regarding ticket prices, but credit where it is due though, as the club did listen and reduced the price slightly to try and encourage a few more through the gate.

In the past, we fans probably would have been ignored, so for the quick response I applaud the club.

The 2-0 score flattered the Junior outfit but you can take nothing away from them.

They put three up front and went for it. They were both dogged and determined, everything you’d expect to see from the underdog, and we wish them well for the season ahead.

With that win a fourth round tie beckons against Falkirk. Another home draw for the Lions and one that won’t enthuse either side having already met in the Betfred Cup and set to meet four times in the league.

However, it does give both teams a genuine chance of progression to the later rounds of the Scottish Cup.

We are back to league business this weekend and it’s a trip to Palmerston to take on in form Queen of the South side. It’s another tough game and a destination where we have only won once in our last six league games.

We will need to be at our very best to rectify those results and get the win that will put us four points ahead of our hosts.

Let’s get a good backing down to Dumfries on Saturday and cheer the Lions on in what is another huge game for the club.
