Dedicated Wilma lifts national award

a dedicated employee at a West Lothian care home has been awarded for going above and beyond for the residents.

Wilma Middleton has been recognised as among the leading care home employees in scotland at a prestigiou­s evening awards ceremony celebratin­g the best of the independen­t care home sector in scotland.

the senior care assistant at Crofthead Care Home scooped the Carer of the Year award at the scottish Care awards 2017.

the awards celebrate the best of the independen­t care home sector in scotland and have been hailed a huge success in recognisin­g individual­s, teams and companies, with more entries than ever flooding in each year from employers and employees nominating their peers and colleagues.

the winner was announced at an awards ceremony last month at the Hilton Hotel in glasgow, hosted by Michelle McManus, with nearly 700 people attending.

Wilma said:“I was very surprised but thrilled and honoured to be chosen as a winner at these prestigiou­s awards.”

she was nominated by charge nurse, Donnalouis­e Bain, who said:“Wilma is an inspiratio­n and has worked at Crofthead since it opened 26 years ago.

“scheduled to retire at 65, she’s now 71 and has no plans to retire and will continue to work as long as humanly possible.

“Wilma fully understand­s person-centred care is fundamenta­l in achieving excellence. a hard-working, excellent team player who shows nothing but love and compassion for all, she strives to improve and enhance the lives of others. passionate about her job, this is highlighte­d in the smiling, contented faces of the residents.”

the care awards followed a full day conference with speakers including professor sir Harry Burns and the Cabinet secretary for Health and sport, shona robison.
