Gritty Wolves fall to cup defeats

Opposition too strong in semi-final clashes

- Callum Carson

It was double Scottish Cup despair for West Lothian Wolves as two teams suffered semi-final exits at Armadale Academy.

The club’s under- 16 women gave a great account of themselves against a Lady Rocks side who went into the game yet to suffer their first defeat of the season.

And they would prove to be too strong for the battling Wolves, who fell to a 79-58 defeat.

It was a similar tale for the Wolves’ senior women, too, who lost out 94-34 against Edinburgh University as they failed to pull off what would have been an incredible upset in their first season playing on the national stage.

Both teams can hold their heads high despite not being able to book a place in the cup final.

Elsewhere within the club, the under- 16 men fell agonisingly short of completing a stunning comeback as they suffered an 8886 defeat to Grampian Flyers in National League play.

The Wolves found themselves trailing by nine points with just 56 seconds remaining and pulled all the way back to within two points.

A three-point effort to win the game at the buzzer rimmed out as the Wolves suffered a fifth defeat of the season with their record falling to 6-5.

The senior men’s side suffered a 57- 45 loss away to Glasgow University B in National League Division Two action with the loss bringing the Wolves back to .500 after eight games.

The club’s under- 18 men will be looking to boost their record to 6-6 this weekend as they visit a struggling Glasgow City side who have suffered defeat in all 10 league games this term.

The Wolves are currently in a four-way tie for fourth spot in the National League table and will be expected to pick up the win on Saturday afternoon.

The under-16 men will be looking to bounce back to winning ways but face a tricky trip north on Saturday to face Tayside Musketeers with the hosts sitting just above them in the table.

The club’s senior women will have their work cut out to get the home win against a St Mirren West College Scotland side who boast an 8-0 record.

Both the under-16 and under-18 women have the week off with their next fixtures scheduled for December 17.

It’s a quick chance for revenge for the younger age group as they host the Lady Rocks in a double-header with the under-18 side taking on the same opposition as they look for their second win of the season.
