Livi stay third despite game being off

-

Results elsewhere ensured that Livingston stayed third in the Championship table despite their home clash with Falkirk failing to pass a pitch inspection.

There was controversy surrounding Queen of the South’s 0-0 home draw against Inverness Caledonian Thistle as the visitors were forced to play despite being stuck in traffic for six hours following an accident on the A9 on Friday afternoon.

That meant the Caley players and staff arrived at their Dumfries hotel at 3am on Saturday and their club’s request to SPFL secretary Iain Blair was turned down.

Following the match, which was a dull affair, an angry Caley boss John Robertson said:“For Iain Blair to say the game must go on regardless of what time we get to Dumfries is an absolute disgrace. He told us we had to play, so we did.”

Elsewhere there was a shock victory for Dumbarton as they inflicted a first home league defeat of the season on St Mirren with Tom Walsh’s 80th minute goal being all that separated the sides.

The Buddies had Stelios Demetriou sent-off late in the first half.

That result meant Dundee United climbed to the top of the table following their 2-1 home win over a slumping Dunfermline Athletic. Scott Fraser netted a first half brace for the Arabs with Declan McManus’s reply from the spot not enough for the Pars who have now gone five games without a win.

Brechin City are still looking for their first victory of the season after they were swept aside 4-1 at Cappielow by an impressive Greenock Morton outfit.

Gary Oliver opened the scoring on four minutes for the Ton with Isaac Layne getting an equaliser for the visitors.

However goals from Scott Tiffoney, Gary Harkins and Jai Quitongo wrapped up a comfortable win for Jim Duffy’s men who now sit in a three-way tie for fifth spot alongside Dunfermline and Queen of the South.
