Tree of Light will shine bright over Christmas

-

Linlithgow’s Rotary Tree of Light will continue to shine brightly this Christmas despite the temporary closure of the town’s library.

Assurances from the council have been given that, although the library will be closed to the public as the staff prepare to move to the County Buildings, the Rotary Club of Linlithgow Grange will still be allowed to place dedications of remembrance in its window for the rest of the campaign.

A spokesperson for the Rotary said:“Linlithgow’s Rotary Tree of Light celebrates the nearest and dearest that are no longer with us at Christmas and is a beacon of light and hope in the darkest of circumstances for those of us that grieve.

“The name of the person being honoured along with a tribute if requested, is placed on the Dedication Roll that is displayed in the library’s window.

“Every penny of every pound raised through this event will be distributed between Linlithgow Link, Linlithgow and District Day Care Centre, the League of Friends of St Michel’s Hospital and Carers of West Lothian.

“All are engaged in the care and support of those whose lives have been afflicted with memory loss or chronic age-related conditions as well as for their carers.

“This could only be achieved through the generosity of our benefactors Robert Bennie & Sons, RGM Solicitors, Alan Steel Asset Management and Stewart Electrical as well as a number of other generous businesses such as Sutherland Mayfair Wealth Management and JMK Design and Print, all of which have amply demonstrated their community spirit.

“West Lothian District Council Libraries Department which has been most willing to accommodate the Tree of Light Dedication Roll despite the period of intense activity that is ahead of their Linlithgow staff.”

The move of the library to the newly-named Tam Dalyell House will be completed by early January. The Roll of Dedication from Linlithgow’s Rotary Tree of Light will remain on view until January 6.

Donor forms and envelopes can be collected from points along Linlithgow’s High Street and from Mannerstons. More details can be found on the website www. linlithgowtreeoflight.org.uk
