MARTIN’S RARING FOR A SQUARE GO

Livingston fighter for MTK Scotland debut

- Callum Carson

Livingston boxer Martin Taylor says he’s ready for the biggest fight of his career as he makes his MTK Scotland debut in Paisley on Saturday.

The super lightweight star looks to improve his professional record to 5-0 with victory over Naheem Chaudry in what is his first bout for 19 months.

He commented: “I’m raring to go and totally 100 per cent ready. To be honest we had to slow things down a wee bit because I could have been ready last week.

“It’s been a very hard training camp getting back into shape because I had a lot of weight to lose and I’d been a bit rusty with being out for so long. The most difficult part wasn’t even the pad work or the fitness, it was watching my partner Claire and son Mekhi sitting there with their munchies all the time and not being able to join in.”

Despite a late change in opponent, the Livi lad says his plans won’t change heading into the weekend.

He said: “I feel fast, sharp and fit so I think I’m in great shape heading into the fight. My opponent has been changed but it doesn’t really make a difference because myself and my team have a game plan and we’ll be sticking to that.

“This is the biggest fight of my career and it feels like I’ve taken a big step forward because it’s an incredible show with some really top boxers. It’s great to be part of MTK Scotland.”

He added: “I’m really thankful for all my sponsors and the supporters who are coming through to watch the fight. With it being so close to Christmas, I wasn’t sure what sort of reaction I’d get but there’s a full bus coming and it really means a lot to me that they are making the effort. I’ll make sure that I put on a good show for them.”

Taylor will be joined on the Christmas Cracker card by unbeaten Blackridge fighter Aidan McGlynn who puts his 2-0 record up to the test against Lewis van Poetch.

The 21- year- old super welterweight has been in terrific form since joining the pro ranks and will be favourite to make it three wins from three on Saturday night.
