Kind-hearted mum who goes beyond the call

Kind-hearted mum Louise Starrs from Whitburn is celebratin­g after being invited by The Centre, Livingston to receive her well-deserved Local Hero Award.

For the last 10 years Louise has worked tirelessly to raise over £30,000 through various events in the local community for the Children’s Appeal, a Scottish charity which help children and young people living in poverty in Scotland.

The Appeal, which is hosted every year by Lorraine Kelly who is a trustee and who Louise has had the pleasure of meeting face-to-face several times, raised £2.6million this year.

Louise, who was nominated for the Local Hero Award by her biggest fan, daughter Bernie, said:“Receiving this Award has been an honour.

“I never ever expected any recognitio­n for what I do the for the Children’s Appeal – I just do because it is a cause I feel very passionate about helping every year and really enjoy doing.”

Ashley Bisland, Deputy Centre Director at The Centre, said:“It gives me great pleasure to award Louise with our Local Hero Award this month and to present her with a £100 Gift Card to treat herself in recognitio­n of all the outstandin­g work she has done raising over £30,000 for charity.”
