Plumber’s kind help to war veteran

Injured Renzo was struggling

- Debbie Hall

A West Lothian plumber spread some Christmas cheer by donating his time to carry out work free of charge for an injured veteran.

Tradesman Damian Schofield of DRS Plumbing and Joinery jumped at the chance to offer his services for free in time for Christmas.

Damian is a member of MyBuilder. com, an online marketplace for homeowners to find quality tradesmen, which recently launched its annual Hero Project.

This sees generous tradespeople from across the country give up a day of their time to carry out work for homeowners who would normally be unable to afford to get essential work done.

Bathgate resident, Renzo Peterson Agnello, was wounded by gunshots while serving with the British Army and has struggled to make repairs in his kitchen, including ripping out an old sink and fitting a new one.

But Livingston- based Damian jumped at the chance to help out when he saw Renzo’s appeal for help through the MyBuilder Hero Project.

Touched by the help he received, Renzo said: “My wife and I could not believe the professionalism shown by Damian.

“The work was carried out on a Saturday, by my hero Damien, who gave up his weekend to take care of an old veteran. The job has been completed and the workmanship is outstanding.

“We will always be grateful to Damian and the team from MyBuilder.”

MyBuilder founder and CEO Ryan Notz, added: “We know how much the amazing tradespeople that use MyBuilder love their communities, and we knew they’d jump at the chance to give something back this Christmas.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the response from Tradesmen wanting to help, we’ve run the Hero Project in the past, but we expect this year to be bigger than ever.

“I’m sure we can help people and families in need across the country at a time when they need it most.”

If you or someone you know has not been able to afford a small, but essential job around the house, the MyBuilder Hero Project might be able to help.

To take part, homeowners-in-need can simply post a Hero Project job on the website, explaining what the job is and why they need it done.

MyBuilder will then attempt to match them with tradespeople who will volunteer up to a day of their time, as well as compensating every tradesperson who takes part up to £100 for material costs.
