An invitation to pop into friendly community shed

- Marjorie Kerr

Members of a community group are issuing an invitation for West Lothian people to join them.

The Armadale Shed is a community run and managed space where people can go to socialise with others while enjoying various activities and workshops.

The shed offers a place for members to share tools, resources and materials while working on projects of their choosing at their own pace in a safe, friendly and inclusive environment.

There is always a wide range of different activities on offer, from wood turning, wood working and weaving to metal work.

The shed is also a great place to socialise, so if you’re not sure about the activities, why not go along anyway and enjoy a cup of tea and a good chat.

Wesley Ball, chairman of Armadale’s shed said: “The Shed is a fantastic local community project which offers a safe space for people to carry out their hobbies, learn new skills and socialise with others.”

This time of year can often be difficult for those living on their own.

The winter months can exacerbate feelings of loneliness and isolation.

The shed offers the perfect opportunity to get out the house and socialise with other like-minded people.

The project is open to residents aged 18 and over across West Lothian and the surrounding areas, so why not go along and partakes in the fun and maybe even learns something new.

This year the shed will be open throughout the festive period. Armadale’s Shed is located on Masonic Place, 7 South Street, Armadale and is currently open every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday between 10am to 4pm.

The project was jointly funded by Castle Rock Edinvar Housing Association, The Sc o t t i s h Government and West Lothian Council.

Executive councillor for voluntary organisations, Kirsteen Sullivan said: “We are delighted to support projects such as The Armadale Shed that are making a real difference to their local communities and are engaging with residents who would otherwise be isolated.”

If the shed sounds like something you would enjoy then why not go along and pay a visit or contact the project for more information on armadaleshed@gmail.com or phone 01501 735 796.
