Blackburn impressive at higher level

-

Blackburn United’s men made it double delight at the club as they matched their female counterparts by sealing promotion.

The New Murrayfield Park side finally made it out of the South Division as they finished runnersup to Dunbar United and they have made quite a start to life in the Premier League, looking more like promotion candidates than relegation battlers.

Fauldhouse United endured a dreadful first half of 2017, being relegated from the top flight with just three wins to their name, but have bounced back remarkably well to sit in the promotion places heading into 2018.

Armadale Thistle found themselves in the same boat but a division below the Hoose and they look well placed for a chance of immediate promotion back to the second tier, although Pumpherston are the team leading the way in the South Division.

Linlithgow Rose also recovered from a dismal latter half of the 2016/ 17 season to start this campaign on fire and look well placed for a shot at the title.

It was a big year for boxing as Blackridge’s Aidan McGlynn made a fast start to his professional career, boasting a 3-0 record with MTK Scotland.

Livingston’s Martin Taylor made his debut with the promoter earlier this month and grabbed a commanding win as he improved to 5-0 for his career.

Fellow Livi lad Thomas Dickson did not have the most memorable year, picking up niggling injuries, and was only able to fight twice, although he did take his pro record to 7-2 with a win over Rhys Saunders in June.

Linlithgow Reds made it all the way through to the BT Edinburgh Shield but were ultimately swept aside in commanding fashion by Murrayfield Wanderers.

Livingston were relegated from the National League set- up but have since made a decent start to life in the East League Division One, including taking the honours in the first derby clash of the season.
