Youngsters do double Jim is on point in capital clash

-

The West Lothian Wolves basketball club’s youth teams were able to do the double over the Stirling Knights in a weekend that saw many games called off due to the weather.

However, the under-18 men and under-16 women made the most of their games being on with wins over the Knights.

The under-18 men were able to grab a tremendous 94-74 victory against the team immediately above them in the league table.

That triumph saw the Wolves close to within two points of their rivals and strengthen their bid for a top-four berth heading into the business end of the season.

The under-16 women jumped into second spot in the table as they sealed a commanding 77-40 win over the Knights.

In the club’s only other game over the weekend, the senior women battled hard but suffered a 69-22 National League defeat at the hands of the Tayside Musketeers. The West Lothian contingent had mixed results in the latest Premier League event in Edinburgh.

Graeme Bird drew 8-8 against Andrew Davidson in a match that saw Graeme in charge but failing to hit the doubles which would cost him the victory.

There was better luck for Rab Dick, though, as the Kirknewton man eased to a 9-4 win over Dale Chambers as he kept his campaign on target with a top game shot of 144 and a 14-dart leg. Jim Mitchell was in brilliant form as he grabbed a 9-6 triumph over Dane McDiarmid in a clash that saw all games finished in 20 darts or less in a thrilling encounter.

Both players gave as good as they got with scores tied at 6-6 before Jim was eventually able to close out the clash.

The news wasn’t quite as good for the ladies as Gillian Mitchell lost 7-4 to Grant Harkins and Denise Bird suffered a 7-3 loss at the hands of Scott Thomson.

There were some terrific battles in the Bathgate Friday Night League was Coppies Bar A grabbed a 5-4 win over Glenmavis Bowling Club.

Cross Tavern defeated Old Wine 6-3 with William Harraughty firing in a maximum 180 along with legs of 19 and 20 darts.

Coppies A may have scraped a victory but their B team was comfortably beaten as they went down 8-1 to Kirknewton Inn.

There was a convincing win for Lammies B as Spencer McDonald led his team to another brilliant display as they grabbed a 7-2 victory over a challenging Corrie Bar outfit.
