Defeat was a low point but it’s time to move on

- Andrew Semple

Football has a funny habit of throwing in a curve ball here and there and in a season of many highs for the Lions it threw in a low as we were knocked out of the Scottish Cup by Falkirk.

With the original tie postponed due to snow, the match was quickly rearranged for Tuesday night. Even that was in doubt. But thanks to the volunteers who worked hard to clear the pitch of snow, it was game on.

Sunday’s fifth round draw threw in more interest.

With the winner taking on a Highland League side, it gave both sides extra incentive to progress.

If truth be told there was very little between the sides and a replay was on the cards until the winning goal came in the most cruel fashion – a 93rd minute own goal that sent the Falkirk fans crazy and left us all thinking about what could have been.

We don’t have time to look back with regret though as the games come thick and fast and it’s back to league business this weekend as we welcome Dumbarton to the Tony Macaroni Arena.

We will have to put the bitter disappointment of Tuesday night behind us and move on, but Dumbarton have proven to be difficult opposition for us in the past so we will have to be at our best to continue our impressive league form.

Come 5pm on Saturday, let’s hope all is forgotten from Tuesday night and we are all heading home with three points, a top four spot and a smile on our faces after another league victory in what has been a largely terrific season.
