A West Lothian high school pupil has scored top marks at the British Education Awards.

This award recognises the value and importance of education and learning as the foundation to a good quality of life and for future success.

In addition, Erin continues to attend college after school on Friday afternoons completing a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Health Sector studies and has passed the first two units of the course.

This is a voluntary additional Skills for Work course that is providing Erin with crucial experience that she hopes in the future, will support her transition into a career in medicine.

Not content with just school work, Erin has dedicated her spare time at school to helping younger pupils with their reading and can be found volunteering every weekend with the British Heart Foundation.

Speaking about her experience Erin said: “It was an incredible experience and I was so pleased that my hard work was recognised. It was amazing to meet all the other students from across the UK that had made the finals and that has motivated me to try and go one better next year.”

Head teacher at St Kentigerns Academy, Andrew Sharkey, said: “Erin is an extremely hard-working, reliable and motivated pupil that has continued to excel in her education. In spite of her considerable academic workload, Erin has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to the whole school community, always looking to support those around her.

“She should take great pride in her achievements so far and know that everyone associated with the school is very proud of her.”

Executive councillor for education, David Dodds said: “Well done to Erin. To be ranked in the top three students in the country is an outstanding achievement and if she keeps up her enthusiasm and determination then she will achieve everything she wishes in the future.”
