Borland is on target to take title

-

William Borland took the Open Singles title after defeating Jim Mitchell in the final of a pulsating evening of darts.

Borland was on target from the outset as he recorded the fastest leg of the night with a 12-darter.

Both finalists eased through their semis, with Borland sealing a 3-0 win over Scott Baillie and Andy Thomson being defeated by the same score at the hands of the impressive Mitchell. However, as it was getting late into the night, the pair decided to changed things up for the final with a PDC format being chosen to decide the winner with the highest scorer over nine darts taking the victory.

Borland took the win by 17 points, although Mitchell was unlucky with a bounce out that would have seen him crowned champion.

The previous day, Mitchell was in fine form as he pulled away from a 2-2 tie to defeat William Campbell 9-3 in the Murrayfield Sports Bar League in the capital.

Other West Lothian players also were in fine fettle on the night, with Rab Dick taking a 9-5 win against Garry Higgins in the Platinum League as he threw four sub-19 dart legs.

Graeme Bird also sealed a great win as he took an early lead and never let go, winning 9-6 over Paul Wyllie.

Stevie Batchelor completed a brilliant night for the West Lothian crew as he defeated Jay Thorburn by seven legs to three.

Coppies Bar A, Lammies B, Cross Tavern and Old Wine all grabbed wins in the Bathgate Friday Night League.
