Ross rides to the rescue

- Blackburn U ............ 2 Arniston R .............. 2

Brian Ross made sure Blackburn United avoided a fourth successive home defeat as he struck a 90thminute equaliser to ensure the hosts got a share of the spoils against Arniston Rangers.

Appearing to be in a sticky patch for the first time in their maiden Premier League campaign, the last thing Mark Campbell’s men needed was to concede an early goal but that’s just what they did as Michael Deland casually rounded off a neat move by firing beyond Kyle Marley.

However, the hosts would grow into the game and, for a change, some luck went their way with the leveller on 34 minutes as Ross Williamson’s cross deceived Dale Cornet in the Arniston goal and sneaked in at the back post.

United were almost in front for the first time just three minutes into the second half as Craig Young’s free-kick cannoned back off the crossbar before being bundled clear.

Arniston, with just two league wins to their name, got in on the act too as Andy Watson’s half volley from 20 yards hit the post as both sides went searching for a second.

It was Rangers who would get it as Kieran Somerville was tripped inside the penalty area with Greig Callaghan slotting the spot-kick past Marley.

United would dominate the final stages in a bid to pick up a point but it appeared to be a forlorn hope with Michael Browne heading a Danny Campbell cross over the bar.

The midfielder would provide the key assist for the leveller as the game ticked into injury-time as he flicked a goal-kick into the path of Ross who showed ample composure to poke the ball past the onrushing Cornet to give United a well-earned draw.
