Team work is the key

-

Livingston midfielder Shaun Byrne insists the team spirit at the club has been key to their surprise season.

The 24-year-old was back in the starting line-up after needing seven stitches to a nasty cut underneath his right eye last week and was full of praise for his teammates after their win over St Mirren.

He said:“We had a setback early on but it just shows you what this team is all about because we always fight back and we’ve got a great team spirit.

“I had stitches out on Thursday and I was never missing this game. To be honest I was raging that I had to come off last week but it had to be done.

“We’ve got 20 players of the year to be honest. We have been a brilliant team and that’s what we’re like. It’s all about the team and there’s nobody in it for themselves. If we stick to doing that then we’ll do well.”

He added:“A big key to the success this season is keeping the spine from last year and we all know each other’s game. We all work tirelessly for each other every day. We’ve obviously added a bit of quality as well and keep getting stronger.

“From the coaching staff and the players, we all are in it together and we all have that mentality. That’s how we’re in this position, because we’re a team. A lot of team’s heads would have gone down after losing an early goal against the league leaders but that’s not us. It shows you what we’re all about.”
