Livingston make it six in a row

Livingston continue their victory roll

-

Livingston produced the performance of the season as they dismantled secondplaced North Berwick.

The Almond Park side eased to a 50-16 victory to make it six league wins on the bounce and continue their perfect start to 2018.

A stunning second half display saw the hosts score 26 points without reply to storm ahead after what had been a pulsating and evenly matched opening 40 minutes.

A large crowd cheered the home side on to a fast start as tries from Gary Wilson and Lewis Cantley saw them take a 12- 0 lead with Dean Edwards making one of the two conversions.

North Berwick, though, dragged themselves back into the game almost instantly as they claimed the restart and worked their way up the field before crashing over the line for their first try.

In a fast-paced first half Livi notched try number three with the extra two points pushing the deficit up to 14.

A penalty and then unconverted try for North Berwick appeared to swing the game in their favour as they made the most of Livi being temporarily reduced to 14 men.

That was as close as the away side would get as Livi turned on the style.

Sam Newall made sure they grabbed their bonus point for four tries before the break as the hosts led 24-16 at the interval.

It was one-way traffic in the second half as Livi ran riot with Wilson’s brute force seeing him bundle his way over the line twice as they opened up a 36-16 lead.

The home side weren’t finished, though, as a striding Edwards charged down the wing but was caught just short of the line only for Aaron Ferguson to be on hand to bulldoze his way over the defence for Livi’s seventh try of the afternoon.

The final try was perhaps the best of the lot as Ben Shearer’s delightful chip over the defence for a sprinting Edwards to round off the scoring and make it a half-century for Livingston.

There’s a week off for the Six Nations as Scotland host England this weekend at Murrayfield so Livi are next in action on March 3 as they travel to a Duns side sitting directly below them in the table as they hope to make it seven wins on the spin. Kick-off is 3pm.
