- Debbie Hall

Pupils at a West Lothian primary school are looking forward to welcoming their new head teacher.

Carene Hay has been appointed as head of Croftmalloch Primary School in Whitburn.

The former depute head teacher of Balbardie Primary in Bathgate has been acting head teacher at the school since August 2017, and now takes on the role on a permanent basis.

Mrs Hay has wide experience in education, completing her teaching degree and an honours degree in educational psychology in South Africa prior to moving to Scotland 13 years ago.

Since joining West Lothian Council nine years ago, she has also taken on senior roles at Bathgate West Nursery School and Bathgate Early Years Centre prior to her current post.

Mrs Hay said: “Relationship is at the heart of my vision for our school. I believe that every child deserves a champion and that team work is essential to meet the needs of all.

“Relationships with and between our children, staff, school community and parents help us to create an enjoyable and successful learning journey in a supportive and nurturing environment.

“We are rooted in our values, as we grow in excellence. I feel very privilege to be part of each child’s story, as we work together to help them to be all they can be.”

Executive councillor for education David Dodds said: “Many congratulations to Mrs Hay on her appointment as head teacher of Croftmalloch Primary school.

“I’m confident she has the skills and experience necessary to be a success at the school, supporting pupils to achieve their full potential.”
