It’s grim up North as South come out on top

-

The West Lothian Inter-Town League was back with a bang as South hosted North in a cracking encounter.

North took the first couple of matches and all looked good for the visitors but South eventually found their range before sealing an 18-14 win to keep up their perfect start to the season.

Despite their 100 per cent record, they sit third in the table behind both North and South by virtue of having played one game fewer.

Top performances on the night for the home team saw John Grant firing a maximum 180 and a century check-out with a fine 108 finish along with a superb 20-darter in a 701 game.

Jim Mitchell of the North had the top finish of the night with a 152 and Wullie Wilson of the North threw a brilliant 17-dart leg, although there was a moment which made everyone laugh as Gordon Bruce hit a 180, despite sitting with 178 left on the board.

North lead the way on 72 points from their four matches, just one point ahead of West despite winning one fewer contest.

South sit on 52 points but have a great opportunity to jump to the top of the table as their game in hand comes against basement boys East, who have just 20 points to their name.

The weather outside might have been a tad unpleasant but that didn’t stop a cracking night of darts in the West Calder and District Darts League on Monday evening.

There were 9-0 clean sweeps for the Grand Central Railroaders and the Kirknewton Barkeepers against the Murray Bar Crofters and Doo Club Fanciers respectively.

At the other end of the scale, the matches between the Deans Bowling Club Golden Oldies and Grand Central Steamers and the Doo Club Flyers at home to the Commercial Inn Juniors went right to the wire with 5-4 victories for the home sides on both occasions.

The Cawburn Highlanders were the only team to seal an away win on the night as they defeated the Stirrup Stane Indians 6-3, while there was a similar scoreline as the Kirknewton Innkeepers defeated Stirrup Stane Wanderers.

In the other contest, the Volunteer Highway Men kept their place atop the Premier League with a 7-3 triumph over Central Bar Rebels.

Graeme Bird was in fine form as he threw a 14-dart leg to go along with a solid 19-dart effort for a cracking 91.08 three-dart average on the night.

Scott Baker of the Central Bar Rebels wasn’t far behind with a 15-darter, despite his team suffering a heavy loss at the hands of the league leaders. Paul Weir’s 140 was the top finish.

The latest round of action makes for a pair of intriguing looking tables.

The Highway Men lead the way in the top flight with 26 points, but their lead is just four points ahead of Commercial Inn Nomads from West Calder.

The Championship sees two teams sharing top spot but Grand Central Railroaders have a game in hand over Doo Club Flyers with both teams sitting on 30 points.

They boast a six point advantage over the Tower Bar Knights who have it all to do if they are to challenge the top two sides.
