Charity launches Collie campaign

-

Animal welfare experts are celebrating one of the country’s favourite breeds of dog this month.

March of the Collies is a celebration of all things Collie.

Dogs Trust experts plan to raise awareness and provide information about the breeds’behaviours and needs and hope to encourage people looking for a Collie to consider saving a rescue dog.

Dogs Trust staff are on the lookout for specific homes for the six collies who are currently staying at their West Calder centre.

All of these six dogs have working collie traits and need certain homes with owners who have experience with active Collies and who understand their nature.

One of those six dogs is the lovely one year old Border collie called Finn. He has been at the centre for seven months and is eager to find a home who understands his needs.

Finn came to the centre when his original owners were no longer able to look after him, but every night since then he has been dreaming of finding his special someone and travelling to his new home.

His carers say he is a bubbly boy who is very sweet and affectionate with people he knows well. His breed traits means he is highly intelligent and needs a lot of mental and physical stimulation to keep his mind busy.

Finn really wants a human best friend who can be around most of the day to play with him, give him fun jobs to do such as games and puzzles and take him on exciting but quiet woodland walks.

His favourite thing to do is chase his ball and play fetch in the garden. He is looking for someone who will show him lots of love and who can understand his instincts and channel those instincts into appropriate games.

Finn is looking for a sensible, adult only home, this sweet boy is wary of strangers and other dogs and is terrified of traffic and loud noises.

He is on the lookout for a rural home with few visitors and where he can be walked in quiet places away from other dogs.

This way he can be relaxed and enjoy the quiet life. He would benefit from someone who could continue his training to make him more confident around people and dogs at a slow and gradual pace he feels comfortable with.

If you think you can offer Finn or any of the other 50 dogs at the rehoming centre a home, please contact us on 01506 873459. You can follow Dogs Trust West Calder on Twitter @DT_WestCalder.
