Two West Lothian Council building services apprentices enjoyed success at the recent Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) Scotland Building and Housing Apprentice of the Year awards.

Apprentice electrician, Allan Webster, finished in first place in the third year category while apprentice plasterer, Grant Stewart, was a finalist in the second year category.

The award submissions were based on the apprentices previous year’s work, which recognised the effort and dedication that they put into their apprenticeship.

The awards featured as part of the two day APSE Scotland Building, Housing and Renewables seminar.

Head of housing, customer and building services, Alistair Shaw said: “The council has a long tradition of working with young people, bringing them through apprenticeships and equipping them with the tools to move on to have successful careers. Congratulations to both Allan and Grant and we hope that they will continue to enjoy their apprenticeship with West Lothian Council.”

Executive councilor for services for the community, George Paul said:“It is fantastic to see two West Lothian apprentices recognised at a national event. Allan and Grant have worked hard over the course of their apprenticeships and are worthy recipients of this recognition.”
