Special Mother’s Day for Livi pair

-

Livingston Rugby Club Ladies teamed up with Hamilton Bulls to form the Livi Bulls as they played two friendly matches on Mother’s Day.

They took on West of Scotland and Falkirk in two 40-minute matches and Livi’s own mother and daughter team-mates Donna and Lauren McInnes took to the field together for just the second time.

In the first match, the Westies proved too strong and their speed was simply too much for Livi and the Westies found the holes in the defence as they raced out to a 31-0 lead. However, the Livi Bulls refused to give in and kept battling for the whole game and were rewarded with a try through Hamilton’s Chloe Isaac.

The try was unconverted and there was no further scoring as the Bulls lost 31-5.

They learned from their mistakes when they took on Falkirk with their defence looking much more organised.

It was a hard-fought close game overall but it was Livi who produced the game’s signature moment as Lucy Kidd was on the end of a brilliant passage of play to score the only try of the game.

Chelsea Watt slotted through the conversion and the Bulls’defence dug in deep over the closing stages as both sides showed incredible desire to win the game, but it was Livi who were the ones celebrating at the final whistle.

Elsewhere, Livingston’s under-17 boys grabbed a 32-5 win over Dundee in a friendly with tries coming from Jamie Lumsden, Ewan Steel, Andrew Campbell, Adam Martin, Andrew Brown and Henry Forehand.

Coach Gary Murchison said:“I was expecting we would start off fairly scrappy and hoped we would get more structure as we progressed but we looked like a team that had been playing together for the season.

“Straight from the kick-off we worked hard to implement the‘Livi ‘Structure’. This, combined with our constant support of the ball carrier, allowed us to play at a pace that put Dundee’s defence under pressure and saw us score six well worked tries.”
