Budding footballers from Pinewood School in Blackburn are dressed to impress after winning a full team kit through E. ON’s Power Kicks competition.

The youngsters, who are involved with Blackburn United Community Sports Club are now proudly wearing their new strip in the club’s colours.

Gill McGinty, whose husband Ian is the community club’s president, entered the competition on behalf of the club’s young players.

She said: “We’re a club for the whole community, and in addition to our semi-professional team, we operate a women’s team and provide for a range of age groups of boys and girls, with teams starting at under-nine years and a soccer school for the younger children.

“Blackburn United recently began working with pupils at Pinewood School, offering help in coaching players with additional needs, and it’s these youngsters that we hope will benefit from the new kit. Winning the team kit has given our efforts to increase our reach in the community a real boost.”

She added: “Blackburn United CSC is both a fully accredited SFA legacy club and a Scottish charity regulated by OSCR and prides itself on providing organised football training and competitive games for all local boys and girls. Our aim is to encourage these youngsters’ passion for the beautiful game and new members are always welcome.”

Michael Lewis, chief executive of E. ON, said the company are delighted to help the young players.

And he wished them success while wearing the new strips.

He added : “I hope this new kit brings everyone involved with Blackburn United Community Sports Club luck in their remaining matches this season.”
