Friday night, the crowning of this year’s Gala Queen, Erin Cormack will take place in the Park at 6.30pm followed by Gala entertainm­ent. Saturday 6th June is Gala Day and the Grand Gala Parade leaves from South Lodge Avenue at 1pm, followed by an afternoon of Gala Sports in the Park. Gala bags will be distribute­d in the park immediatel­y after the parade arrives there. For full details of all Gala events please see the Gala Programme which is being delivered to every Mid Calder household. This year’s Gala Court is headed by Gala Queen, Erin Cormack; the Queens Escort is Matthew Hopper; Crown Bearer is Kristen Brown and Flower Girls are Scarlett Slevin, Grace PateWilson and Annalise Butler; their Escorts are Finlay Cuthbert, Finlay McDonald and Connor Lumsden. Ladies in Waiting are Myah McAdam, Daisy Jackson and Mhari Gribbon; their Escorts are Alex Stirrat, Jason Richardson and Joel Greig. Congratula­tions to them all. Bottle Bank Competitio­n -Recycle your glass during the “Mid Calder Children’s Gala Day” and raise money for next year’s event! The bottle banks at Almondell Country Park will be assessed by WLC so that every bit of glass placed in them during the week before and the week after 2nd June 2018, will be counted and will result in a payment to your Gala Committee. The more YOU recycle the bigger the payment for your gala next year! Mid Calder Gala Committee are holding their AGM on Wednesday 5th September at 7.30pm in the Institute Hall. Open to all Mid Calder residents. Gala Week Remembranc­e Flowers If you would like to place remembranc­e flowers in the Kirk of Calder, please bring your vase of flowers or arrangemen­t ( with your name on the bottom) tonight, Thursday 31st May between 7pm and 9pm. The church will supply a card for the name of the person you are rememberin­g. The Kirk will be open for viewing Friday 1st June 7pm -9pm and Saturday 2nd from 11am to 4pm. Teas / coffees and cakes will be available. Vases and flowers to be collected after morning service on Sunday 3rd June from 11.30am onwards. Kirk of Calder Sunday morning service is at 10.30am. The church is open for quiet reflection on Sundays from May to September from 2pm to 4pm. Choral Highlights Summer Concert The Choir are having their annual concert in conjunctio­n with the excellent West Calder Brass Band. We sing a varied and wide selection of music from differing genres. The Brass Band also play a wide selection of music to suit all tastes. What could be more delightful than spending a summer evening with us, come along you will be made very welcome.
