FRINGE ART PRIZE

A West Lothian primary school pupil has won a competitio­n for her artwork representi­ng the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Natalie Read, a primary four pupil at Meldrum Primary School, was the regional winner for the Lothians in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Schools Poster Competitio­n 2018.

Natalie’s poster demonstrat­ed the joy and excitement of the Fringe Festival which takes place in the capital in August every year.

Meldrum Primary also had three runners up in the competitio­n, Amelia Drazkiewic­z P1, Yoanna Ruseva P2 and Charlie Chrystal P2.

Natalie attended the awards ceremony with her parents at Dynamic Earth on Monday where she was presented with a certificat­e and joined children from all over Scotland who had also won awards.

Mrs Russell, Head Teacher, and Mrs Stewart, Art Teacher, also attended the ceremony.

Mrs Stewart said:“It is fantastic to see one of our pupils being awarded at such an event.

“There are so many talented children here and their posters really capture the spirit of the Fringe.”

Following the ceremony the children and young people enjoyed face-painting and circus and arts activities led by the competitio­n’s champion artist, Ursula Cheng.

The winning posters will all be on display at Dynamic Earth until the end of August 2018.
