Alicante 10k run for veteran Ian

Lothian club athlete flies out for championsh­ips

One of Lothian Running Club’s oldest members represente­d the club in the recent European Masters Non Stadia 10k Championsh­ip in Alicante.

Ian Leggett finished in an excellent ninth place and second GB runner in the over-75 years category completing the road course in 64 minutes and 40 seconds.

The category was won by Vincent Batista of Slovakia.

Closer to home, the Lothian club had a dozen runners among a field of 1100 in the Black Rock five mile race in Fife on Friday evening.

The race started and finished in Kinghorn with the runners heading out over the beach and around the Black Rock. The first LRC runner home, in 13th place, was Malcolm Lang with Andrea Cameron the first club female. The race was won by Logan Rees, Fife AC.

LRC results were: 13th Malcolm Lang (25.31), 99th Scott Nelson (29.43), 232nd Paul Young (32.51), 241st Stephen Malcolm (33.05), 319th Jim Alexander (34.47), 321st Calum Ross (34.49), 377 Andrea Cameron (35.50), 441st John Robertson (36.46), 485th Alan Weir (37.19), 734th Bethany Nelson (42.26), 738th Jim Salvage (42.32), 788th Mike Murray (43.28).

The club were also well represente­d in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival with runners in the Marathon, Half Marathon and 10km events.

Marathon results: 87th Euan Rennie (2:54.7), 624th Paul Young (3:19.30), 3056th Scott Balfour (4:02.57), 4122 Melanie Kennedy (4:19.46).

Half Marathon: 275th William Moffat (1:27.47), 417th Alan Cunningham (1:30.11), 1607th Colin Wishart (1:42.46), 4021 Liz Bondi (1:56.20), 4066 Sarah Gregory (1:56.31), 5273 Simon Yapp (2:02.13),6685 Andrew McKenna (2:09.52).

10km: 7th Alan Knowles (37.11), 81st Al Aitken (42.23), 137th Ryan Ferguson (44.17).

Running in a mixed 1500 metres race at the recent Livingston Open meeting at Craigswood Stadium, Hannah Steel reduced her personal best by nine seconds finishing in third place in 5:07.25.

Ryan Kirkland ran his best ever time for a 1500 metres, winning his race in 4:57.10.

Andrew Corrigan finished 41st in the Kirkcudbri­ght Academy Half Marathon in 1:45.39 while Mike Murray completed the Shettlesto­n 10k in 58.25.
