Borland boosts his CV with top title

-

It was a brilliant weekend for two West Calder and District League stars with William Borland and Jim Mitchell taking titles.

Borland added the Scottish Singles title to his ever-growing CV and proved he was without a doubt one of the men in form as he added to the Masters triumph from earlier in the year.

He grabbed a comfortable 5-1 win over Ryan Hogarth in the final.

For the older generation, Mitchell grabbed his fifth Open title of the year - proving that there’s no barrier in darts.

He won the inaugural Ballroom Open in Edinburgh, which pitted top players from across the Lothians against each other.

Mitchell won 4-1 over Paul Burrows in the semi-finals, with Eddie Main winning by the same scoreline against Mick Kerr to reach the final.

In a best-of-nine format, Mitchell was in stunning form as he needed just six throws at doubles to grab five legs without reply and get the title.

On the day, the West Lothian contingent gave a good account of themselves.

Martin Deegan, from Dechmont, fired in 17 and 19 darters as well as a maximum 180.

East Calder’s Graeme Bird was also on the 180 trail as well as throwing 17 and 18 dart legs with Kirknewton’s Rab Dick matching him with a 17 dart effort.

It was Mitchell, though, who was in particularly stunning form on the day with a pair of 180s and 10 sub-19 dart legs, including a 13-dart effort that saw him need four shots at double-16.
