Linlithgow lose battle of the Roses

Bonnyrigg Rose .... 4 Linlithgow Rose ... 1

-

Linlithgow Rose’s hopes of silverware this season were brought to an end after they suffered defeat in the Fife and Lothians Cup semi-final – just two days after seeing their opponents crowned Superleague champs.

Linlithgow were no match for a fine Bonnyrigg side. First-half goals from Keith Lough and Alan Horne put the home side in the driving seat, but they were pegged back just after the break as Tommy Coyne netted from the spot.

However, further goals from Lee Currie and Dean Brett ensured there would be no final for Mark Bradley’s side.

Linlithgow had defeated Carnoustie Panmure 2-0 on Saturday thanks to strikes from Coyne on 39 minutes and Roddy MacLennan in the latter stages.

Elsewhere, Broxburn’s poor run to end the season continued with a 5-3 home loss to Dundonald Bluebell.

Barry Sibanda netted four times for the visitors in the win.

Blackburn United’s final game as a Junior club was a 1-1 away draw with Tayport as they prepare for the switch to the East of Scotland Football League in the summer.

Whitburn suffered a 3-1 loss away to Glenrothes and will need a victory on Saturday away to Haddington if they are to climb above rivals Bathgate Thistle in the Premier League.

Harthill Royal ended their first season back in the Juniors with a 4-0 home win over Easthouses Lily MW.
