Livingston XI stay on top of the league

Firsts maintain first league spot as seconds win double

Livingston’s First XI maintained their perfect start to the season - while it was a club double as the Second XI also grabbed victory.

The First XI sit at the top of the East of Scotland Cricket Associatio­n Division Two table with five wins from five after their victory over Edinburgh CC Second XI as captain Ahmed Ali notched a stunning 140.

He was ably supported by Salman Aslam (33) and Hamad Ahmed (24) before being caught.

Batting first, Livi posted an impressive 259- 8 from their 40 overs with solid contributi­ons also coming from Ali Bukhari (20 not out) and Hannah Short (24).

The visitors boast two of the top batsmen in the division, but Livi’s bowlers made short work of the visitors, dismissing them for 147.

Key bowling performanc­es came from Travis Chandler (2-28) while Kash Khalid, Mark Peachey, Jack Jarvis and Aditya Chary also impressing.

The Second XI travelled to Musselburg­h expecting a tough Division Five enough. Livi posted 128-9 with Simon Lancaster (28) and Kamlesh Marshiya (27) the pick of the batsmen.

Livi dismissed the hosts for 82 to grab a 46-run victory with the wickets spread evenly with six bowlers chipping in with wickets. Shrey Awasthi (7.5-2-16-3) was the star performer.

Next week the First XI travel to St Boswells and the Second XI are at home to Dunnikier.

Elsewhere, Linlithgow suffered their first defeat of the campaign as they slipped to a four wicket loss at home to Marchmont.

Batting first, Linlithgow were soon in disarray as they slipped to 32-6 before number 10 Jordan Hamilton hit a swashbuckl­ing 30 to boost their total to 89 all out.

The hosts came out fighting as Clint Dixon (3-17) helped reduce Marchmont to 44-5 by the drinks interval, but they regrouped to reach the target for the loss of six wickets in the 31st over.

Linlithgow’s Second XI suffered a 36 run loss in Division Four at the hands of Edinburgh University Staff. Highlights for the visitors included Ewan Edwards making his first senior 50.

Fauldhouse Victoria lost for the fourth time in five fixtures this campaign as they went down to a 115 run loss away to Edinburgh Accies. Chasing 224 for victory, Fauldhouse were dismissed for 108 with a Mike Kelly half-century being the only resistance.

They host Mazars Grange Third XI on Saturday.
