eat momoreore … lose weight

- Debbie Hall

Local mum Kerry is now living happy after losing 6st 2lbs since joining her local Slimming World group.

For as long as Kerry could remember she had been unhappy with her weight and felt for so long that this had held her back.

Kerry said: “I remember how low I felt when clothes shopping, the constant battle in changing rooms which always left me in tears leaving the shop with nothing but an empty carrier bag.

“My weight had bothered me for quite some time and the final straw which made me take the leap to join a local slimming club was not wanting to go on my Christmas nights out.

“I wasn’t happy and I realised how much my weight was holding me back in life. I wanted to be a better mum - and my constant depressed mood wasn’t healthy.”

On January 23, 2017, Kerry made the life-changing decision to walk into a Slimming World group.

She continued: “I didn’t realise how friendly every one would be. Everyone was just so welcoming.

“As I got to know the members and Tracey, my consultant, I could tell straight away that everyone completely understood how I was feeling.

“On my first night, I sat in a talk for new members – I couldn’t believe what I was hearing – that I could eat so much food and lose weight.

“Fruit, vegetables, pasta, rice, potatoes, lean meat and pulses without weighing, measuring or counting. This is too good to be true, I thought!”

Bathgate consultant Tracey Halliday said: “Kerry made that huge step to come along to the group and like many others was nervous.

“Slimming World’s Food Optimising plan is so generous, flexible and liberating that members can choose from a wide variety of Free Foods without having to calorie count or restrict themselves.

“It’s just one of many things that makes us different to any other weight loss organisation.”

Kerry has become a really active member of the group, participating in the weekly group meetings where ideas and recipes are shared.

She enjoys the weekly support promised by the organisation to support all members to their own personally chosen target weight.

Kerry said: “Around 10 per cent of members attending weekly are target members who are awarded lifetime membership and then supported free of charge to stay slim for life.

“I’ve learned how to shop, cook and eat differently without missing out on family favourites.

“I love how we can eat as a family, and my spaghetti bolognese always goes down well with the girls – and hubby too!

“My consultant Tracey and new friends in the group helped me to take control of my weight.

“I have new confidence and now love to clothes shop – rather than spending money on unhealthy snacks, it is now a new skirt, a pretty dress or top.”

Being overweight for more than 20 years, Kerry’s new-found confidence has given her the opportunity to pursue a dream nursing career at university.

Tracey said: “It is such a privilege to play a small part in Kerry’s weight loss journey.

“Helping members every week to make changes to their eating habits and become a little more active when they feel ready is such a rewarding role.

“Kerry also embraced our activity programme – which we call Body Magic – and is signed up to complete a sponsored abseil to raise money for Strathcarron Hospice.”

Kerry is so proud of her achievement and feels she is now a better role model for her daughters.

And she likes to tell people her total weight loss of 6st 2lb is the same weight as her 10-year-old daughter.
