Help for Heroes event
Help for Heroes is celebrating Carers Week by holding an Information and Wellbeing Day in West Lothian for wounded, injured and sick veterans and their families.
The event is being held on Saturday, June 16, at the new Craigsfarm Community Hub in Livingston from 11am to 4pm.
It will include an information area, about the support provided by Help for Heroes in Scotland.
This includes its Hidden Wounds service, which supports ex- ser vice personnel or a family membermliving with anxiety, depression or anger, and the Band of Brothers/Band of Sisters Fellowship networks which offer support and a listening ear to veterans and their families.
Carers of West Lothian and Young Carers Group will also be represented alongside Armed Services Advice Project ( ASAP) and Royal Caledonian Education Trust (RCET).
The Therapy Area will have taster sessions of reiki, angel cards, g ro u p m e d i t at i o n and mindfulness, nail treatments plus story massage for children.
There will also be taster workshops of British Sign Language ( BSL) from a young family member who is registered deaf and has just passed his BSL Instructors Course.
And there will be a craft area for all ages and abilities to promote the therapeutic benefits of art and crafts
Ge r ry McGre g o r, Help for Heroes Band of Brothers/ Si s t e r s coordinator in Scotland, said: “We want to promote the holistic approach that Help for Heroes takes towards recovery for the armed services community. We aim to showcase what’s available for the whole family whilst introducing them to the help and support available up here in Scotland and at Phoenix House Recovery Centre in Catterick, North Yorkshire.”
