Holt after Livi job

Shortlist of three or four

- Callum Carson

Livingston say they have three or four “prime targets” as they continue their managerial search.

The club are yet to name a replacement for David Hopkin who left the club two weeks ago despite leading the Lions to consecutive promotions and a return to the top flight for the first time in 12 years.

Former Rangers striker Kenny Miller has been heavily linked with the post, while Kilmarnock legend Gary Holt is also believed to be on Livi’s shortlist.

Holt insists he would love the chance to speak to the club.

The Scottish Cup-winning midfielder has been out of work since he left Norwich in 2016 but says he believes that the Livi gig would be “right up my street”.

The 45-year-old, who interviewed for the Kilmarnock job before it was given to Steve Clarke, impressed during his spell at Falkirk in 2013/14.

He said: “It would be great to talk to Livingston about the managerial vacancy.

“They’re an up and coming club who have done great recently and have a great structure in place.

“It would be a job that would interest me and be right up my street.”

A statement from Livingston read: “We are progressing well after sifting through a mountain of applications.

“Talks are ongoing with three or four prime candidates and we will provide an update as and when we feel we have the best fit for the club installed. As previously stated, the potential manager will fit into the club’s existing structure.

“This will allow us to continue to recruit and prepare for preseason, safe in the knowledge we won’t be jumping into a situation we may regret in months to come.”

The statement continued: “This method has served us well in previous seasons, albeit we have had a manager in place. But ultimately we are following the same tried and tested recruitment process.

“David Martindale and the backroom staff have our full support and trust while we conduct our thorough search for the most suitable candidate.”
