Shonad gets her hair chopped for mum

-

A young Livingston woman has braved the shave for charity after her mum was diagnosed with cancer in 2016.

Shonad Livingstone (22) from Ladywell had her hair chopped for Macmillan Cancer Support after her mum Irene Livingstone was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma in 2016.

Shonad said:“In August 2016, at the age of 44, my beautiful mum was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma, a large tumour in her throat.

“My mum was up for a fight and she gave it her very best shot with an intense six-week course of radiotherapy and two courses of chemotherapy.

“I’ve never seen my mum so weak and she still smiled everyday no matter what. She beat the throat cancer and for six weeks we had the all clear.

“We unfortunately had the soul destroying news on the May 24, 2017, that my mum’s cancer was back, although this time in her lungs, and it was more aggressive than ever.

“Not only did she have cancer again but it was at the terminal stage.

“My mum was given six months to a year to live.

“I’ve never watched someone go through something like this and never thought I’d have to, especially my best friend in the world.

“I’d like to give something back and we all know how much I love my hair - so I shaved it.”

Shonad braved the shave at Angus Ainslie Hairdressers in Ladywell and has so far raised £520 for the cancer support charity.
