Week of special events

Volunteer praise

- Debbie Hall

West Lothian’s many devoted volunteers have been getting some well- deserved recognition.

Volunteers Week was marked in the county last week, shining the spotlight on the army of volunteers who make a difference in their communities.

West Lothian Volunteer Network is a group of volunteer coordinators who meet to support good practice in volunteer management, promote volunteering and acknowledge the work of volunteers in West Lothian. West Lothian Volunteer Network ( WLVN) ran a series of volunteering events in Tesco in Bathgate, Craigshill Mall and Bathgate Partnership Centre, where members of the public could go along to find out about volunteering opportunities in West Lothian.

Sharon Frederiksen from West Lothian Volunteer Network said: “There’s a wealth of volunteering opportunities in West Lothian. There’s something to meet everyone’s interests and time commitment.” Volunteers Week culminated in West Lothian Volunteer Celebration at West Lothian College that saw volunteers thanked for their hard work over the past year.” Angela Constance MSP helped mark the start of this year’s Volunteers’ Week with a series of visits in West Lothian.

She said: “Volunteers make a fantastic contribution to our local communities and the annual Volunteers’ Week is a great opportunity to say thanks to them. I would encourage everyone to find out how they can volunteer and contribute to their community.”
