Bridge repairs

- Marjorie Kerr

Drivers are being warned of works to improve the Whitburn overbridges on the M8 at Junction 4.

Work will begin tomorrow (Friday, June 15) until July 2. The concrete repairs will be carried out over three phases. A signed diversion route will be in operation during each phase. Phase One will require night-time closures between Junction 3a and Junction 4a from June 15 until June 22.

Westbound traffic will be directed to exit at Junction 3a onto the northbound A779. From here, traffic will turn left onto the A7066 (Starlaw Road) and will merge onto the A706. Traffic will then cross under the M8 to turn right onto the B7066 and will follow this route until Heartlands Industrial Estate where it will turn right. At the two roundabouts, traffic will continue straight on and will be able to rejoin the M8 via at Junction 4a. During Phase Two, June 25 until June 29, there will be night-time closures on the M8 eastbound carriageway between Junctions 3a and 4a. Eastbound traffic will be diverted to exit at Junction 4a and will immediately turn right at the top of the slip road. At the three roundabouts, traffic will continue straight on and will then turn left to join the B7066. From here, traffic will turn left onto the A706, merging with the A7066 and at the roundabout will take the forth exit onto the A799. Traffic will be able to rejoin the M8 eastbound carriageway at the Junction 3a on- slip road. Phase Three will see a contraflow system in operation on the eastbound carriageway over the weekend of June 29 and July 2.
