FOOD TRAIN HELP

-

Students from West Lothian College have taken the opportunity to use their required 60 hours work experience to good use at West Lothian Food Train.

Food Train exists to support older people to live more independently at home for as long as they wish and are able.

This is provided through a range of practical home-based support services designed and delivered to create more social connections, reduce loneliness, reduce the risk of falls and malnutrition.

HNC hospitality student, Mary Burns, said: “I am delighted to use the skills and knowledge I have developed at West Lothian College to help support the aims of the Food Train. Seeing first-hand the positive impact Food Train has on old people in our communities is a great joy to see.”

HNC photography student, Arran McMillian, will be using his skills to create a documentary style film. “I am excited to be given the opportunity to create and produce a documentary on the vital services provided by Food Train.”

Development officer, Lorna Farquhar, said.“We were delighted to be approached by students from West Lothian College to work in partnership and provide a valuable work placement opportunity. The Voluntary Sector can provide students with valuable work place skills and experience which can be easily transferred to future employment.“
