Trio land gongs from Queen
Joy as hard work is rewarded in Birthday Honours List
Three West Lothian people have become worthy winners of gongs in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
James Kane, Dr Norman Alexander Lannigan and Margaret Ann Fleming have been congratulated after being chosen to receive honours for their hard work and commitment.
James, estates area manager for the Scottish Prison Service has been awarded an OBE for services to the Scottish Prison Service and to charity, as has Dr Alexander Lannigan, of West Calder.
He is the former head of the Pharmacy and Prescribing Support Unit, at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and received his OBE for services to pharmaceutical care and medicines management.
And picking up and MBE is Margaret Ann from Linlithgow, who is chief executive of the Scottish Volleyball Association, for services to volleyball.
Mr Kane told the Courier he was “surprised and elated” to receive the honour, adding: “It came out of the blue, I really wasn’t expecting it.
“I’m delighted to have been recognised for the 38 years of service in the prison service and for charity.”
Margaret Ann was thrilled to have been recognised for her work with the Scottish Volleyball Association but added that it was for everyone in the sport. She said: “I’m absolutely delighted.
“It has come in a year that started off with a trip to the Commonwealth Games and an award from North Lanarkshire Council in the Sporing Hall of Fame awards.”
West Lothian’s Provost Tom Kerr is pleased to see people from West Lothian being recognised and said: “Congratulations to Ms Fleming, Mr Kane and Dr Lannigan on their recent awards from the Queen.
“I’m delighted to see three West Lothian residents, who have significantly contributed to public life in West Lothian and across Scotland in their specialist fields, honoured in this way.”
