Vandals attack toddlers’ play park

Closed for clean-up

- Debbie Hall

Police are hunting vandals who wrecked a play park for toddlers.

The play area in at Chestnut Grove in Craigshill, Livingston, has had to be closed after thugs threw white paint all over it.

Council teams are working to get the paint removed by an industrial specialist as soon as possible so that the well-used play area can reopen.

Executive councillor for the environment Tom Conn said: “Targeting a toddlers’ play area like this is particularly selfish and shows no thought for the young children who enjoy this facility on a regular basis and are now unable to use it as a result.

“The nature of the vandalism means specialist cleaners will be required to safely remove the paint.

“It’s appalling that we will now have to spend money that could be better invested in improving facilities to restore the area following this vandalism.

“West Lothian Council already invests a significant amount to create and maintain play areas in West Lothian every year. This particular park was refurbished in the 2017/ 18 programme at a cost of £37,000.”

Inspector Adam Smith from Livingston Police Station urged anyone with information to come forward.

He said: “This needless act of vandalism has resulted in a much-used play park being closed to the public while repairs are made, at cost to the council.”

Anyone with information can call police on 101 or the council on 01506 280000.
