Sixth title for Mitchell

-

Some of West Lothian’s top darts stars made the trip east to Haddington for the annual Gardener’s Arms Open competition.

With a prize pot of £300 up for the taking, the event attracted players from across the Lothian and Borders region.

And West Lothian’s Jim Mitchell sealed his sixth singles title of the year as he beat the field with a stunning afternoon of action.

The final four saw Andrew Wheelans edge out Darren Beveridge in a cracking contest by five legs to three, while Mitchell was up against Angus county star Steven Lewis.

The final scoreline of 5-2 in favour of Mitchell was largely down to the victor’s brilliant form on the doubles as he booked his place in the final.

It was a classic veteran versus youth battle and it was the experience of Mitchell that proved the difference.

Despite superb scoring from both competitors, it was Mitchell who was left celebrating once it was all said and done thanks to a 6-3 victory to seal the title.

Mitchell was in imperious form on the day with five 180s as well as a 177. He also threw a remarkable 10 legs of sub-19 darts.

Old man Mitchell may be been the once celebrating but it was the beaten finalist who rattled off the fastest leg of the day with an incredible 12-dart effort on his way to the final.
