Denise equals record

-

The penultimate night of action from the West Calder and District Darts League saw the men’s and women’s singles titles being up for grabs.

It was a record-equalling night in the women’s event as Denise Bird sealed her fourth title, tying the league’s best-ever tally with Lydia Barrowman.

She defeated Gillian Mitchell 3-0 in the final to round off a tremendous night of action. The final pitted the two ladies who had teamed up to seal the doubles title earlier in the season against each other but Denies controlled the game to be crowned champion.

The men’s event was another brilliant competition with Gordon Bruce lifting the trophy at the expense of defending champ Davie Aitken with a 4-2 win in the final.

After a string of closely contested clashes, the field was narrowed down to four with Aikten edging out John Brogan in a high-scoring encounter to book his place in the showdown.

In the other semi, Bruce hit the doubles wit deadly accuracy to get the better of Jim Mitchell to set up a clash featuring two previous winners in the final.

Both players were at the top of their game but it was a fantastic 116 game shot from Bruce that turned the tide in his favour and he would go on to ensure he was crowned West Calder and District Darts League’s 2018 Men’s Singles champion.
